The Institute of Development Finance and Project Management IDFPM) is a professional body with the mandate of training, developing and registering professionals in the field of development finance and project management. The failure of conventional finance to address global challenges necessitates the emergence of the institute to provide development programmes that will build nimble and virile professionals that will assist individuals, households, organisations, communities etc to be financial literate and be able to undertake projects that will impact positively on them and the society at large. The institute is duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and approved by the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Institute is established in Nigeria under ACT N0 1 of 1990 and approved by the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Institute has emerged as a major player in the development finance and project management practice. It unites development practitioners under a common umbrella to build capacity and promote development finance and related issues such as entrepreneurship development, Business Development Services and Result base monitoring and evaluation services.
As at December 31st 2013, IDFPM has 289 members in Nigeria.
To become the focal point and leading forum for Development Finance practice in Nigeria.
To serve on a viable platform to enhance professional development, networking and information exchange to close the skills gap in Development finance and project management and learning, monitoring and Evaluation (LME).
Professionalism, Integrity, Compliance with ethical standard.
a. To train individuals and corporate bodies on the subject of development finance, project management, entrepreneurship and business development and other related courses for the purpose of awarding professional and proficiency certificates.
b. To provide opportunity for the development of professional relationship between members and the institute and other professional organizations for the purpose of advancing mutual benefits.
c. To maintain a register of individuals and organizations who are members of the institute.
d. To organize lectures, seminar, symposia, as well as to undertake research and publications
e. To liaise with local and international development agencies in areas of development to promote development finance that enhances socioeconomics progress of Nigeria.
f. To provide business development support through training and capacity building, developing feasibility studies and bankable business plans, documentation and ensuring compliance to financial and legal requirements, building networking and consultancy
g. To undertake consultancy services in development finance, project management, entrepreneurship and business development
Since inception, IDFPM has organized professional development programmes to build the capacity of members in its various training programmes and conferences. Other services provide are short training programme to individuals and corporate bodies as well as capacity building and business development services to MSMEs.
The Bank of Industry (BOI) has appointed IDFPM as a Business Development Service Provider for MSMEs in Nigeria. The Institute is partnering with East Carolina University, the Innovation Institute and Centre for Entrepreneurship and Development, University of Nigeria, Nsukka to run academic and professional programmes in relevant areas of development finance, project management, business development services and monitoring and evaluation management.
The institute has also been involved in advocacy, research and publication. As part of community development services and corporate social responsibility, the institute is partnering with relevant NGOs such as COPE-ROJECT in training youth and women groups especially Corps Members in entrepreneurship and small business development.
